Why Koreans Have a Particularly High Suicide Rate

Korea bears the stigma of being a 'Republic of Suicide'.We must face the dark shadow of our society hidden behind rapid economic growth.

1. Fiercely Competitive Society

Infinite competition starting from childhood does not tolerate losers. The social atmosphere that remembers only the first place incites frustration and deprivation. We must restore the value of 'together'.

2. Face Culture and Shame

The face culture that is overly conscious of others' gaze makes failure considered shameful. We need a society where perception shifts to 'it's okay to fail' and opportunities for second chances are given.

3. Collapse of Community

As the traditional extended family system collapsed and individualism spread, the emotional support base weakened. Restoration of village communities and faith communities is urgent.

4. Trend of Disregard for Life

Materialism makes us convert the value of life into money. We must spread the awareness that life is precious in itself.

5. Spiritual Emptiness

Material abundance does not give spiritual satisfaction. We must realize the futility of life without God and find the purpose of life within true truth.
