Why should we give money to support the church? Philippians 4 shows us that offering and a generous spirit are beneficial to us.
1. Giving is Merciful
Offering is a merciful act that relieves the suffering of ministers and neighbors. The giving love of saints is a great strength to missionaries and ministry fields.
2. Offering is Ministry
Giving is not just a way to support ministry, but participating in the ministry itself. The Philippians participated in Paul's ministry through their offering.
3. Giving is Wise
Investing in the gospel ministry is the safest and wisest investment, storing up treasures in heaven. It is an investment that yields eternal returns.
4. Giving is Worship
Offering is a fragrant offering that pleases God. We worship when we give. Offering is an expression of sincere worship to the Lord.
5. Giving is Safe
"And my God will meet all your needs" (Phil 4:19). Investing in the kingdom of God is very safe, and God will meet our needs.
6. I Give but God Takes Responsibility
When we give, God takes responsibility. God is a loving Father who knows our needs exactly and leads us in good ways.
7. Giving Offering Glorifies God
Our greatest hope is to glorify God. If we can give by God's grace, it is a way to honor Him. Everything is for the glory of God.
