There is a tendency in the church to view talking about wealth and prosperity negatively. However, the Bible speaks much about wealth and prosperity and offers key ways to achieve the righteous wealth and prosperity that God wants us to have.
1. Be Diligent
The first thing to do to receive God's blessing is to practice diligence. "Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth" (Prov 10:4). When we work diligently, God will give us wealth. Diligence makes a person rich, but laziness makes one poor.
2. Seek God Often
Not only must we be diligent, but we must also seek God in everything. Hezekiah prospered because he sought God and served Him wholeheartedly (2 Chron 31:20-21). If you want God to bless your situation continually, seeking God must be constant in your life.
3. Read God's Word Often
When you set your heart and mind on godly things, you will be constantly nourished, and everything you do will prosper. "But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night... whatever they do prospers" (Psalm 1:2-3).
4. Do Righteousness
When you practice righteousness, God will never forsake you. "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread" (Psalm 37:25). Walking in God's righteous ways brings wealth and honor.
5. Be Honest
When you do godly work and follow godly ways, you prosper in everything. "The Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless" (Psalm 84:11). God does not withhold good things from those who walk honestly.
6. Honor God with Wealth
God knows when we give what we have that we are doing our best, and He rewards us for it. "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine" (Prov 3:9-10).
7. Sow Seeds
"Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days" (Eccl 11:1). You must sow seeds to get fruit. God's law is that you sow first and reap later, and you reap what you sow. Do not be stingy, but sow seeds in faith.
